Junior Lighting designer

Job Description

Workshop Recruitment is working with a well-established organisation seeking a Junior Lighting Designer to join its design team in Portsmouth. This is an excellent opportunity for a Junior Lighting Designer looking to develop their career within a supportive environment where training and professional development are encouraged.

The successful Junior Lighting Designer will support a variety of lighting projects, working closely with internal teams and clients to create functional and visually appealing lighting solutions. This role offers exposure to both new-build and refurbishment projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and coordinate lighting projects from concept through to completion.
• Produce drawings, schedules, and plans using CAD and related software.
• Develop lighting layouts, specifications, and control strategies.
• Collaborate with engineering, marketing, and customer-facing teams.
• Attend site visits and present design concepts and solutions.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant legislation and industry standards.
• Build and maintain positive client relationships.
• Prepare specification sheets and supporting project documentation.

Skills & Knowledge Required

• Basic understanding of mathematical concepts.
• Strong design and technical abilities.
• Good organisational and time-management skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
• Interest in interior design and lighting design.
• Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Knowledge of Relux is desirable but not essential as training is provided.
