Fire & Security Engineer Portsmouth £35,000–£48,000 Permanent PO3

Are you an experienced Fire & Security Engineer with strong fault-finding skills and a customer-focused approach? Workshop Recruitment is working with a well-established engineering business experiencing continued growth within its Fire & Security division. They are looking for an experienced Fire & Security Engineer to join their team, with opportunities for an experienced Lead Engineer as well as candidates looking to develop their skills.

You will work across commercial and industrial sites, carrying out maintenance, reactive call-outs, remedial works and installations across a range of fire and security systems.

The Role

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive call-outs.
  • Diagnose faults and provide effective technical solutions.
  • Complete remedial works and new installations.
  • Maintain fire alarm, CCTV, intruder and access control systems.
  • Provide professional technical support to customers.
  • Complete accurate service reports and system documentation.
  • Participate in an on-call rota, approximately 1 week in 3.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience in Fire & Security Engineering.
  • Level 2/3 qualification in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Fire & Security, or a related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and electronic systems.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Good understanding of IP networking and basic IT troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of relevant industry standards, including BS 5839-1 and applicable security standards.
  • Strong fault-finding, communication and customer service skills
  • BS 5839-1 – fire detection and fire alarm systems in non-domestic premises.
  • BS 5266 – emergency lighting
  • Intruder alarms – typically to PD 6662 / relevant EN 50131 standards.
  • CCTV – installation, configuration and networking.
  • Access control – readers, locks, door controllers and associated software.
  • IP networking, TCP/IP and basic IT troubleshooting
  • BAFE knowledge/experience can be valuable, although BAFE certification generally applies to organisations rather than making an individual engineer “BAFE qualified.”
  • ECS / CSCS-type site card where required by the site.
  • PASMA and/or IPAF for access equipment.

Experience with Advanced, Kentec, Toccare, Orisec, Pyronix, Texecom, HikVision, Dahua, Paxton, Videx or Bell systems would be advantageous, although training can be provided where required.
