Top Tips on Working with a Recruiter - How to get the most out of your recruitment agency

Partnering with a recruiter can be a strategic and often crucial move for companies seeking top talent in order to grow their business.

With valuable industry knowledge and an excellent understanding of the current market conditions, recruiters are able to connect you with top quality candidates, leaving you more time to focus on the other aspects of your business.

To make the most of this partnership, consider these top tips when working with a recruiter:

1. Be prepared to discuss the role in detail with your consultant

Whilst you may already have a job spec prepared, it is key that we can discuss this in detail with you in order to fully understand your needs. At the start of the process it’s really helpful to set aside time for a call to run through everything so we can provide you with the most suitable candidates.

2. Be transparent about salary and benefits package at all levels

One of the first things candidates will ask us for is information on the salary and benefits package for a role. The reason being, just as you have your requirements, so do they. It is important we only put forward candidates whose expectations align with the reality of the role. If you don’t intend to pay a certain salary, don’t advertise that you will, regardless of the level of the role.

3. Provide feedback on CV’s and interviews in timely manner

After reviewing CV’s or interviewing candidates, commit to providing feedback either way as soon as possible. This not only means we don’t lose quality candidates but we can also refine our search if need be.

4. Set aside time for interviews with the correct people

Good candidates don’t become available all the time and when they do, they don’t stay available for long. Once we start the process, ensure you have enough time set aside with the relevant hiring managers to accommodate interviews within a reasonable time scale.

5. Be honest about where you are in the process

From the very beginning, make it clear where you are in the process. If you are already at interview stage with some candidates, let us know so we can plan around this. If you are at interview stage already then we may wait to see these outcomes before putting more resource into the role.

6. Use your consultant in a consultative manner

We have your best interests in mind and will guide you on any aspects of the process you need us to. Be open to taking advice on the current market, competitor salaries and candidate experience levels as our consultants are experts in these areas.

At Workshop Recruitment we welcome a collaborative approach to working with clients and believe that our success is your success. We approach our partnerships with honesty, experience and a drive to provide you with the best possible service, in turn supporting your business growth.
