The use of Artificial Intelligence across many industries is on the rise and the recruitment industry is not immune. Using it as a support tool can be advantageous, however, there can be potential drawbacks to allowing this new technology to showcase your talent.

In this blog post we explore the pros and cons of using AI to write your CV:

Pros

1) No grammatical errors

Using AI eliminates the potential for typos and spelling mistakes, giving your CV an overall more professional finish.

2) Provides a format
If you are unsure on where to start when formatting your CV, AI can help by prompting you and providing a template to follow, thus ensuring all the relevant information is showcased correctly.

3) Can give inspiration

AI can provide you with ideas and inspiration for adding additional elements to your CV that you may have otherwise forgotten. For example, it may highlight some duties you had previously undertaken that may otherwise have been missed.

Cons

1) Misrepresentation

AI will suggest skills that come with a particular role based on the job title however, this may be a misrepresentation of your actual skills.

2) Lack of Authenticity
The use of AI could give a false impression of your grammatical and language skills. Whilst it is always best practise to use software, such as spell check, you must ensure it is true to your normal use of language. As an example, AI may use words that you would not use in everyday life or may not actually know the meaning of, which may hinder you at interview stage, if questioned.

3) ATS Systems will develop
Applicant tracking systems will develop to be able to spot an AI generated CV, meaning, whilst your keywords could shortlist your CV initially, you could be discounted if your CV is not deemed genuine later.

Ultimately, whilst there is a place for AI in the recruitment process, it is vital that the human element remains, so hiring companies can gain a true understanding of who they are hiring. This starts with an honest, clear CV that allows you to showcase your experience, as well as your personality.
Using a recruitment agency, like Workshop Recruitment can greatly assist you in your job search, however, in order to match you to suitable roles, we need a true understanding of where your skills lie.
