In today’s fast paced business environment, the demand for top quality candidates is growing and companies are continually seeking ways to streamline and refine their recruitment processes.

Whilst reducing hours in manpower, and ultimately overall spend on recruitment could seem appealing, we are exploring the reasons why the human element will always be necessary, and how relying solely on automation could have a negative effect on your business.

Use of keywords

Automation tools will often use keyword searches on CVs to ensure that your requirements are met. Whilst this can be a positive, it is also easy for candidates to progress based on only this, when they perhaps wouldn’t if they were being qualified by a recruiter.

Candidate Engagement

When actively searching for a new role, one of the most important things to a candidate is feedback, whether positive or negative. Automated email responses can be disheartening and not constructive. Candidates will form an opinion based on their whole experience with your company, so it is important to engage with them effectively at each stage.

Discounting potentially promising candidates

Often candidates will have many transferable and soft skills that are not always showcased on their CV. This means they would be discounted based on the pre-set parameters of automation software. A human that understands the requirements of the role in depth can discuss with the candidate to assess if their skills would be suitable.

Interview Scheduling

Whilst automated scheduling tools can sync with your calendar and book interviews for you without the need for you to do anything, there is no fall back from emergencies or sudden diary changes. A recruiter is always on hand to rearrange or communicate on your behalf if things change last minute.

Whilst automation offers numerous benefits, it is essential to maintain a human element throughout the recruitment process. Streamlining repetitive tasks and enhancing efficiency will save time and potential costs however, human judgement and the ability to qualify further are irreplaceable when it comes to shortlisting candidates. Working with an agency like Workshop Recruitment can be advantageous if you are looking to save yourself time whilst ensuring you are meeting with skilled, experienced and suitable candidates.
