We often speak with clients that are struggling to fill new roles themselves and ask for our support with attracting and securing top talent. One of the main reasons they struggle is they haven’t refined their hiring process well enough.

Before you start interviewing it’s important to have certain things finalised to ensure the hiring process is smooth and efficient. Check out our top points to consider when starting the search for your next team member:

Provide feedback in a timely manner

Whether it is a yes, no or you would like to see them again, commit to providing initial feedback promptly after interview to allow the process to move forward for everyone.

Decide on salary and benefits and stick to it

Don’t offer less than is advertised. If you have decided on a salary bracket and advertised this on the job then offer within this, not below.

Ensure all management are available at interview times before booking them in

Ensure everyone you need to be involved in the interview stage is available at the times you book them for. This avoids candidates having to return multiple times to meet team managers / other hiring managers when it could all be combined.

Turnaround offers and documents promptly once you have an agreed offer

If your candidate has verbally accepted your offer, don’t delay on sending them offer letters and contract documents. They are unlikely to hand their notice in at their current role unless they have this. If you take a long time to process, you could be delaying start dates.

Ensure a positive candidate experience

Remember an interview is a two-way street. Not only does the candidate need to sell themselves to you, but you need to sell your company to them. You want them to leave wanting the job if you offer it. Make them feel welcome and comfortable and encourage open communication.
