Author: Rachel Wardle

From 1st April 2022, the National Living Wage (NLW) will rise from £8.91 to £9.50, representing a 6.6 per cent increase.

Alongside the NLW increase there have been significant rises in the National Minimum Wage (NMW) rates for younger workers. For those aged 21-22 rates have increased from £8.36 to £9.18, narrowing the gap with the NLW. NMW rates for 18–20-year-old will rise from £6.56 to £6.83 and for under-18’s from £4.62 to £4.81. Apprentices will also see a rise of 51p, from £4.30 to £4.81.

The pandemic has been an incredibly difficult period for businesses and workers alike, but the labour market has recovered strongly, returning to pre-pandemic levels with many businesses advertising record numbers of vacancies.
