The next post in our series of interview preparation and tips is all about research. You’ve been offered an interview - probably based on the content of your CV, which you either submitted yourself or had submitted on your behalf by a recruiter.

How much of your CV can you actually remember off the top of your head? Before you head off to your interview, it’s vital that you read through your CV thoroughly as the interviewer is likely to be asking questions regarding it. If there are any gaps in your employment, be prepared that the interviewer might ask about them, as well as your relevant employment. Be prepared to answer questions on any part of the info that you supplied on your CV.

Research the company – this is absolutely key. You are applying to work at this place – so you need to know why you want the job, and they will probably ask that question! Look at the website and really go through it. You’ll get a good idea of the company’s products and services, and quite likely some information regarding the key people. You may be able to find out how the company is structured. The company might run a blog or news page, where you’ll be able to get a picture of their ethos / culture. Try to research the market that the company works in. You may even find out who their main competitors are.

Find out how many people will be interviewing you. For some companies it could be just one person, whilst for others it might be a panel.

Find out what their roles are within the organisation.

As well as doing your own homework, if you are working with a recruiter talk to them. They may be able to give you more information about the company and they might even have some information about the interviewer(s) and their interview techniques.
