25th-29th September is International Week of Happiness at Work week. An event that offers a dedicated time for businesses to consider employee happiness and make changes that contribute to a
happy and productive workplace for all.
Not only does employee happiness affect the individuals personally, it has a great impact on the team and organisation as a whole too. Often contributing to higher productivity, employee retention, collaborative working and enhanced creativity.
Check out our 5 simple ways to have a positive impact on employee happiness this week and beyond:
1. Celebrate and thank your employees
A little goes a long way, just a simple ‘well done’ or ‘thank you for your hard work’ shows your employees you value them and the work they do.
2. Arrange team events or team building exercises
Whether it’s team nights out away from the office to bond, or a team building activity during work hours, it is important for team members to strengthen working relationships and create a sense of belonging.
3. Create a Positive Work Space
Create a comfortable and pleasant work space for all that promotes health and well-being. Consider natural light, furniture, facilities on offer.
4. Open Communication
Ensure your employees feel they can approach you if they need to. Have an open and transparent line of communication whereby you encourage feedback, but also take it on board.
5. Work-Life Balance
Where possible offer flexible schedules and remote options to help your employees maintain a healthy work-life balance. This will have a positive impact on employee’s overall happiness and in turn their dedication and loyalty to your organisation.
This week we encourage everyone, whether an employee or employer, to take a moment to consider their own workplace and it’s overall happiness and have open conversations about the little changes that could improve this.
