If you have been selected for a second interview – congratulations!
You have progressed beyond the initial stage and are part of a small group that the company is seriously considering. The second interview is your opportunity to really stand out from the rest and delve deeper into your skills, experience and how you would fit in with the company.
In this blog post we are exploring the ways you can prepare to ensure you nail that second interview:
Plan your logistics
Ensure you confirm the details of interview times, dress code and any documents you are required to take with you. Plan your route and aim to arrive a little early, dress accordingly in line with the company culture and bring clean, up to date copies of any documentation needed.
Review your first interview
If you received any feedback following your first interview, be sure to address this and make changes for the next stage. Consider the questions that were asked previously and expand on those answers so you can give more detailed responses.
Understand the agenda
It is important to understand the format of the second interview, who you are meeting and what they expect to see from you. If there is a technical element to the interview ensure you have practiced the skill and have everything you need in order to demonstrate it successfully. Similarly, learn about who you are meeting and their role in the company so you have confidence on the day.
Demonstrate how you will add value to the business
The company will be hiring for this position as they have a need to fill. Whether they are growing a team and need extra resources to manage workload or require a specific skillset, it is crucial to show them how you will help achieve this. Strengthen your answer with specific examples of how you can add value in and fulfil that need for them.
Prepare questions
Consider questions about the team you will be working with, the company values and goals, opportunities for career progression and growth. The second interview is also as much for you as it is for the company. It is important you leave feeling as though you have a good understanding of the role and if it is right for you.
Being successful at the second interview stage requires confidence, preparation and the ability to showcase yourself and your skills. By using the tips above you can take your time to prepare and feel calm and confident on the day.
