Starting a new role is often an exciting yet nerve-wracking experience for many. Whether you are progressing your career or starting your first post education role, first day jitters are completely normal.

Here are some tips to help you ease into your new role and overcome your first day anxiety:

Embrace the Fresh Start

This is your opportunity to showcase your skills and experience in a completely new environment. Forget any issues you experienced in previous roles that might be influencing your thoughts and
embrace the clean slate.

Build Relationships

Establishing new working relationships and building connections early on with your colleagues is one of the most effective ways to ease into a new role. Building a support network will help make the whole transition smoother.

Remember your ‘Why’

Remind yourself ‘why’ you made this change. Whether it was for career progression, to improve your work/life balance or to pursue something you are passionate about, reminding yourself of this will ease your nerves during the first few days of the unknown.

Remember everyone has been in your position

Everyone has been the new person in the office at some point or another, and all of them have experienced the exact same feelings you are. Everyone understands that new employees have a learning curve and need to feel welcome. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and seek guidance whilst building these connections and friendships.
