Have you ever seen a job advert online and thought to yourself ‘That would be the perfect role for me’ If you have, you can guarantee plenty of others have too. That is why it is key to make your application stand out from the crowd. Workshop Recruitment’s specialist consultants have many years’ experience between them and see hundreds of CV’s a week. We know exactly what makes an application stand out from the rest, so we thought we should share our top tips to make sure we see you and remember you the next time that perfect role comes up!

1. Customise, Tailor and Use Buzz Words
It is crucial that your application is tailored to the role you are applying for. Take a look at the job description and the key skills the employer is looking for. If these are also your key skills then be sure to reference this. Use buzz words that link to the role you are applying for but avoid generic ones that lots of others will use.
2. Be Honest
While you always want to look like a desirable candidate it is important to be honest with what you can and can’t do. There is no point trying to start in a new position that is way out of your depth as this will ultimately make you memorable for the wrong reasons in the future.
3. Let Your Personality Show
Do you speak a foreign language? Do you volunteer with local charities? Have you got an achievement you are extremely proud of? All of these things show your personality, character and who you are outside of work whilst remaining professional. In turn making you a memorable candidate.
4. Be Pro-Active and Follow Up
Whilst we will always contact you if we feel you could be suited to a position, there is no harm in following up once you have sent your CV. This shows desire and how keen you are to progress your application.
5. Check, Check and Check Again!
Spell check is there to help you. Once you have written your application, spell check it, make sure the grammar is correct and before you hit send, read it just once more so you are sure it portrays you in the best way.
