Our client is one of the leading distributors of building consumables in the UK. The key element of this role will be to manage internal sales teams, leading, motivating and driving the teams to achieve high sales performances and sales targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction for the team recruiting high quality staff and ensuring that they are properly equipped and developed to achieve their targets.
  • Contribute to the development of a sales strategy which will provide for long term profitability.
  • Work with the Regional Sales teams to establish a sales plan which reflects the market potential of the branch`s trading area.
  • Ensure clear objectives are set for each member of the sales team which match the budget and which satisfy the needs of the branch.
  • Contribute to the development of pricing policies and manage their application in the branch.
  • Liaise with the operations function on a daily basis to maximise the use of fleet resources and ensure that deliveries are prioritised effectively.
  • Communicate effectively to all individuals and the team ensuring that everyone is aware of their own performance and the branch overall.
  • Support the Operations Director in supplier negotiations and reviews, seeking and securing supplier support on individual major projects.
  • Personally manage relationships with some of the key customers.
  • Support the relationship between the internal and external sales teams.
  • Monitor competitor activity
  • Responsible for ensuring project tracking is utilised throughout the branch
  • Ensure all Key & Target Accounts are managed effectively and that the appropriate representation is maintained at all levels (link with external sales team)
  • Identify new sales opportunities and research, introduce and establish new accounts.
  • Introduce product promotions to customers and maximise margin within pricing policy guidelines.
  • Overall responsibility for the performance of the trade counter and its staff.
  • Accurately input orders to maintain the highest levels of customer service.


Knowledge / Education / Experience Required

  • Strong management style with experience of people management.
  • Commercially astute
  • Able to demonstrate creative flair (sales tactics)
  • Able to demonstrate strong IT and software application skills including Excel
  • Strong negotiator
  • Ability to demonstrate strong customer focus
  • Excellent personal organisation skills
  • A motivator
  • Adept at relationship building
  • Great interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Strong customer focus
  • Maintain a stable performance under pressure
  • A self-motivated individual who is a level headed decision maker
