Our client based in the Portsmouth area requires an experienced Production Supervisor to work double day shift hours.

Job Purpose

To ensure customer satisfaction through effective utilisation of staff, achieving quality product first time, within budgeted costs. Take ownership of production operations and contributing to the continuous improvement of the manufacturing facility.

  • The effective management and planning of all shift resources within the Mould shop facility, including all operators and quality compliance for production during the shift.
  • To ensure resources are utilised in a safe and efficient manner to achieve maximum output, within a specific budget.
  • Direct management of departmental subordinates to maximise service delivery to meet customer OTIF.
  • Implement agreed procedures to maintain and improve quality standards. Promote and monitor safe working practices and adherence to relevant legislation.

Main responsibilities

  • Allocation of resources to meet schedules, including temporary staff planning.
  • Production capacity planning to meet customer expectations and achieving an OTIF target of 98% and an internal OEE target of 80%
  • Provide production availability dates to Production Planning/Customer Services by attendance at Production Meetings (in person or via Teams).
  • Manage and adhere to the make order procedures from Engineering to Production and jobs are Production capable.
  • Assess, review and where appropriate ensure ongoing training and development or departmental subordinates.
  • Ensure training records, work instructions and all departmental procedures are compliant and sustained.
  • Reporting performance of department directly to the Manufacturing Manager.
  • Ensuring data is recorded in a timely and effective manner in the required internal systems, e.g. Visual.
  • Pro-actively raise any equipment issues, and faults to reduce downtime and maintain productivity.
  • Positive promotion and participation in any and all H&S initiatives.
  • Identify and implement process improvements.
  • Drive the 6s requirements of the area under supervision.
  • Work with HR on any people management issues with the aim of resolving any matters quickly, and fairly. Undertaking Appraisal and/or 1-2-1 meetings as required.
  • Ensure departmental KPIs are met and improved. Set up and drive further improvements and new KPIs as part of TQM,
  • Maintain compliance and actively support continuous improvements for Quality, Environmental (ISO Accreditations) and H&S (including a 6s target of 90% within your own department to meet overall business objectives. Being a major contributor to the H&S Committee.
  • Flexibility to assist in various production related activity as required.

  • Ensure the delivery of exceptional customer service by providing professional, helpful, high quality customer service before, during, and after the customer's requirements are met.
  • Drive operational excellence and continuous improvement by ensuring product quality is maintained and good working practices are adhered to.
  • Adhere to the Company’s Health and Safety, Quality Management System, and Environmental guidelines and procedures and undertake any actions associated with them when required.
  • Ensure that reasonable care is taken to maintain yours and your colleagues’ health and safety.

Education

Essential

  • GCSEs in Maths and English or equivalent.

Desirable

  • Recognized qualification in supervising/Leadership.
  • Recognized H&S qualification (e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH)
  • Recognized qualification in manufacturing (NVQ, Time served Apprenticeship or similar)

Knowledge

Essential

  • Good understanding of ISO 9001:2015 requirements.
  • Performance management & development.
  • Flexible in terms of changing work procedures, varying tasks and an ability to adapt to situation.
  • A firm understanding of health and safety.
  • 5 and 6 s housekeeping.

Desirable

  • Completion of a supervisory training course
  • Some knowledge & experience of Continuous Improvement methodologies (e.g. TPM, Six Sigma)
  • Knowledge of injection moulding.

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 5 years supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Relevant Production Supervision experience leading teams in manufacturing in a high precision industry.
  • Manufacturing process experience & knowledge in relevant industry.
  • Driving health and safety.

Desirable

  • Experience of leading continuous improvement activities.
