Continuous Improvement Manager

Our client based in the Portsmouth area requires an experienced Continuous Improvement Manager. The CI Manager will drive the transformation of company processes and systems to achieve world-class business performance and customer satisfaction. It will involve taking the team on a journey to embed lean thinking and skills, helping the wider team to derive improvements to their business processes. This role will work closely with all departments and senior Managers to identify improvement opportunities and lead cross-functional project teams to deliver change. This role requires a hands-on approach.

The Continuous Improvement Manager will need to balance their time across strategic improvement work and their day to day tactical workload supporting the companies Quality Management System and processes.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop & implement a world-class continuous improvement strategy
  • Develop and embed visual management systems
  • Improve customer satisfaction particularly with respect to delivery, quality & cost
  • Improve efficiency through the identification and elimination of unnecessary complexity within the business
  • Cascade the ownership of improvement activity to all managers & team leaders
  • Help the team use structured problem-solving tools to identify opportunities to improve, driving transformational process and culture change
  • Use continuous improvement activity and influencing skills to increase staff engagement across the business and at all levels
  • Drive the use of data collection & root cause analysis to produce information leading to improvements in operational processes
  • Identify, or deliver, training and coaching to employees across the organisation
  • Take ownership of change initiatives from conception through to implementation
  • Maintain and develop our QMS (ISO9001:2015 compliant) making it accurate, accessible and a tool to support the business
  • To implement and maintain any other relevant accreditations
  • Oversight of Customer Product Quality Questionnaires & Inspection Test Plans
  • Inducting new staff to the quality system & promoting the quality policy

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in leading transformational change
  • Relevant Engineering/Science Degree (or equivalent)
  • Experience of electro-mechanical production environments
  • Six Sigma (Green or Black belt) or other relevant lean training
  • Experience of managing ISO9001:2015 & external audits
  • Experience of coaching, mentoring and training
  • Lead Auditor ISO9001:2015 - desirable
  • Experience of bespoke / Engineer-to-Order manufacturing / Construction - desirable
  • Data manipulation/analysis skills (Advanced Excel, Access, PowerBI, SQL) - desirable
  • ERP implementation experience - desirable
  • Experienced, influential & persuasive
  • Ability to win hearts and minds, bringing people on a journey of change
  • Great communicator
  • Analytical thinker, great problem solver
