This role will provide the engineering leadership within the Operations department. Working with the management team across the Operations area to define a clear strategy for new products and improvements. It will be vital to build links across the engineering departments for operations, new products and design, coupled with the needs of the operations area to ensure full product lifecycle support. Key to the success will be the development provided to the maintenance department, so that they may lead the TPM programmes required throughout the plant, as well as building links with group companies to share best practice within the plant and group companies.

Job Duties

  • Work with the Customer Product and Improvement Manager, Production Engineering Manager, Quality Manager and Maintenance Manager to identify possible cost savings and plant improvements. Ensure that appropriate actions are taken and liaise through the departments to ensure success.
  • Minimise the impact of customer and internal 4M issues to daily operations and actively support the customer specific teams to resolve these in a timely manner, including implementation of any process improvements and associated documentation.
  • Ensure that the handling of all parts and assemblies have packing that is fit for purpose prior to being used in assembly through to finished products delivered to the customer.
  • Support the Customer Product and Improvement Manager by supporting team activities such as Kaizen workshops and Quality Circles. With a focus on ensuring existing and new products can be manufactured in line with company requirements for Cost, Quality and Delivery, recommending improvements where required.
  • Work with the NPI Launch Team and the SDS process and look to expand it into all areas of the business if appropriate. It will be critical to build a solid handover between the design department and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure new product success.
  • Work with our clients Health and Safety manager to ensure that we achieve and maintain ISO45001 status. This needs to ensure that robust but not labour intensive processes are put into place.

  • Update process documentation at point of change including, process FMEAs, process flow and SOP’s during product development or improvement activities.
  • Monitor KPIs and ensure specific targets are achieved and identifying trends and corrective actions and improvements.
  • Ensure that you comply and adopt the 5S programme regarding the organisation of your work environment.
