Manufacturing Engineer

Our client based in Portsmouth requires an experienced Manufacturing Engineer.

General Objective of Position

To enable and influence change in the Operations departments and to ensure that all processes, problems and projects are handled as effectively as possible so as not to compromise customer orders or the quality of our products

General Responsibilities

  • Equipment selection, design, build, servicing and maintenance including documentation
  • Technical support to the Operations Team
  • Electronic and electrical component failure analysis and rectification
  • Change control for Production documentation
  • Use data analysis to identify and drive improvements and efficiencies throughout production
  • Analysis and reduction of product support tickets


General Tasks

  • Internal validation of production and engineering equipment removing any failures or problems identified on the equipment and providing necessary training to the equipment user
  • Act as the primary lead during internal and external audits for Production Support processes as and when required
  • Management and support to ensure equipment and machinery is kept in good condition and serviced in line with its requirements by either servicing or inspecting it internally or using a 3rd party contractor as appropriate
  • Support in the generation and completion of concessions where possible
  • Management of the small change process; ensuring timely execution of actions arising from small change requests
  • Continually seek and implement improvement opportunities leading to efficiencies in production and production support
  • Improve production efficiency by analysing and planning work flow, space requirements and equipment layout
  • Manufacture and maintenance of test jigs, fixtures and equipment, ensuring all equipment and documentation is fit for purpose and meets both Production`s and the design specification needs
  • Where required, provide support and technical assistance for any quality, manufacturing or test issues.
  • When required, ensure the documentation control process is followed and any issues highlighted to an appropriate person
  • Where required, provide assistance in the investigation of customer complaints and provide root cause analysis when applicable
  • When required, provide temporary support to the Returns department, primarily during holiday periods


Essential skills/experience

  • Electronics diagnostics experience
  • HND or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or similar experience
  • Lean six sigma Green Belt
  • Lean/CI in manufacturing exposure
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs
  • Ability to interpret data and results to formulate conclusions and recommendations
  • Ability to work un-aided, planning and prioritising effectively
  • Understanding of design and production costs to include waste, downtime, scrap and rework
  • Engineering degree
