Our client offers the widest portfolio of environmental solutions that meet all existing and anticipated regulations, including regulations for environmentally sensitive areas. They have developed a broad range of specialised and proven environmental products, such as: Wastewater treatment (conventional biological sewage treatment plants and advanced membrane bioreactors), Ballast water management systems, Fresh Water generation (reverse osmosis plants and evaporators) and Vacuum toilets and vacuum collecting systems.
An exciting opportunity to join the business as a commissioning engineer has become available with a great salary/benefits package. You will be required to stay away for weeks at a time, however, you will be paid and rewarded well.
Main tasks and responsibilities
Independently carry out electrical and mechanical commissioning of equipment and systems following installation and general service duties as required
On completion, undertake compliance testing and provide a full technical handover to customer
Attend sea trials on completion of commissioning activities
Provide timely, detailed commissioning reports, with accurate feedback to the Service Manager and Project Managers
Assist the Engineering department and customers with electrical and mechanical installation, planning and design
Support and attend Aftersales service agreement work as and when required
Implement system upgrades on board customer vessels, as required
Provide recommendations for the improvement of company systems, specifications, installation and operational procedures
At all times represent the company’s interests while interacting with the customer, shipyard staff and the classification society
Be familiar with and comply with all company policies
Requirements
A proven background within an electro-mechanical engineering environment
A formal qualification within marine engineering e.g. HNC/HND level or NVQ3 in Commissioning and Installing electro mechanical systems
Understanding of electronic and PLC control systems. It would also be an advantage to have a basic understanding of Siemens and Mitsubishi (or other brands) software control systems
Must have a sound and full understanding of, and with the ability to follow, P&ID drawings, process flow drawings and complex electrical drawings
Pro-active and independent individual with a team player attitude
Practical problem solver with the ability to display a systematic approach to evaluation and resolution
Excellent communicator, both written and verbal
Valid passport and driving licence
Willingness to travel abroad for up to a month at a time
Sound knowledge of the marine industry is desired
Fluent in English, both written and verbal
