Senior Hardware Technician

Our client is actively seeking a Senior Hardware Technician to provide assembly and testing services during the development process. The Hardware Technician shall assist the Engineering department and provide solutions to problems in situations that are atypical or infrequently occurring based on existing precedents or procedures.

Job Core Responsibilities

  • Compile written procedures to test and fault find electronic assemblies/products
  • Perform testing and prepare reports as required
  • Prepare sample products for design and qualification testing, including fixtures and cables
  • Construct and test prototype designs and special-to-type test rigs
  • Compile and follow written procedures to test and fault find electronic assemblies/products
  • Build and rework breadboards, printed circuit boards and wiring looms and assemble mechanical assemblies
  • Assemble, modify and repair customer equipment within scope of own training and certification
  • Organise the storage, calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment and component as necessary, maintaining records
  • Maintain Engineering laboratory 6S standards (Sort, Set, Shine, Standardise, Sustain, Safety)
  • To liaise with and provide assistance to all departments, customers, suppliers, consultants and authorities as required
  • To carry out other duties as may reasonably be required by the Project Manager


Job Specifications

Essential:

  • Able to compile and follow written procedures to test and fault find electronic assemblies/products
  • Able to perform and report on testing
  • Able to prepare sample products for design and qualification testing; including fixtures and cables
  • Able to construct and test prototype designs and special-to-type test rigs
  • Sound knowledge of electronic test principles and practices gained from hands on experience
  • Ability to build and rework breadboards, printed circuit boards and wiring looms and to assemble mechanical assemblies
  • Able to read and interpret technical data (drawings, technical publications and circuit diagrams)
  • Able to solder to required standards (IPC A-610 or equivalent)
  • Able to organise the storage, calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment and components as necessary, maintaining records.
  • Effective communication skills (written & verbal)
  • Self-motivated, able to work to deadlines and focused on achieving goals
  • Able to work effectively within a team and take responsibility for own work
  • Ability to write concise, accurate, grammatically-correct reports
  • Structured approach to problem solving
  • Extensive experience of Microsoft Office tools (Excel and Word)
  • Comfortable working to engineers verbal instructions in a development environment
  • Understanding of who the stakeholders in a business are
  • Good understanding of the need to satisfy customer demands and expectations
  • Understands the principals of continuous improvement and applies them in the workplace
  • OND/ONC or equivalent in Electronics Engineering or a closely related discipline


Desirable:

  • Experience of qualification (e.g. RTCA/DO-160)
  • Experience of managing an engineering lab environment
  • Experience of liaising with sub-contractors
  • Experience of working off-site and with minimal supervision
  • Capable of suggesting different ways of working to achieve agreed results
  • Experience in the avionics industry
  • A valid IPC accreditation
  • Proven knowledge and experience gained from working in a similar role
